Choosing your DNS mode

When you add a domain, cripta.to asks how you'd like to manage its DNS: hand over the whole zone (Full DNS) or keep your current setup and delegate just the mail part (Split DNS). Here's how to choose. Once you've picked, follow the guide for your registrar for the exact steps.

Full DNS

Hand over the whole domain

cripta.to hosts your entire DNS zone. You repoint your domain's nameservers to us once, and we create and maintain every record your mail server needs — MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, autodiscovery and TLS — automatically.

What you do

  • Change your domain's nameservers at your registrar to the two cripta.to shows you. That's it.

Best for

New or clean domains with no existing website or DNS records you need to keep. This is the simplest option, and the one we recommend when you can use it.

Keep in mind

Changing nameservers replaces your registrar's DNS for this domain entirely. Any records you currently have (a website, other subdomains) must be recreated in cripta.to.

Split DNS

Keep control of your domain

You keep your current DNS provider and hand cripta.to only the mail subdomain. You add a delegation for mail.yourdomain and a small set of records to your root zone yourself, leaving everything else untouched.

What you do

  • Delegate the mail subdomain: add NS records pointing mail.yourdomain at cripta.to.
  • Add the mail records to your root zone: MX, an SPF TXT, a DMARC TXT, a DKIM TXT, two SRV autodiscovery records, and an optional webmail A record.

Best for

Domains that already run a website or other services you want left completely untouched.

Keep in mind

There are a handful of records to enter by hand, and a single typo can stop mail from flowing — copy each value exactly from the setup screen.

Where the values come from

cripta.to shows you the exact nameservers, DKIM key and server IP during onboarding — always copy them from there. The registrar guides below use example.com and placeholder values purely to illustrate where each field goes.

Step-by-step for your registrar

Don't see yours? More registrars are coming. The record types are standard, so any DNS provider works — use the records described above; only the field labels differ.

After you make the change

  • DNS changes usually take 5–30 minutes to propagate, but can take up to 48 hours depending on your registrar and TTL.
  • cripta.to checks your DNS automatically and continues onboarding as soon as it sees the change. You can safely close the setup page and come back later.
